Latest IRCC Processing Times – October 2025 Update

If you are planning to study, work, or settle in Canada, one of the most important things to track is IRCC’s (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) processing times. These timelines give applicants an idea of how long it may take to get a decision on their file.

As of October 2025 (based on data updated at the end of September), here are the latest processing times for some of the most popular immigration applications.

📌 Study Permits

• From India: Around 4 weeks
Students applying from India continue to see relatively fast processing under the Student Direct Stream (SDS). However, delays can occur if biometrics, medicals, or documentation is incomplete.

📌 Work Permits

• From India: Around 8 weeks
Applicants seeking employer-specific or open work permits generally wait about two months. High demand and additional checks (especially for LMIA-based applications) can impact the timeline.

📌 Visitor Visas

• From India: About 63 days (just over 2 months)
Family visits, tourism, and business visitor visas are seeing longer waits compared to permits. IRCC continues to manage a large application backlog in this category.

📌 Express Entry (Permanent Residence)

• Canadian Experience Class (CEC) & Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): 5–6 months

IRCC has been issuing regular draws, and processing for permanent residence under Express Entry is stabilizing around half a year.

📌 Family Sponsorship

• Spouse/Partner (Outside Canada): About 15 months
Family reunification remains a top priority for Canada, but applicants should be prepared for timelines that stretch beyond a year.

📌 Citizenship Applications

• Citizenship Grant: Around 11 months
Permanent residents applying for Canadian citizenship can expect nearly a year of processing. This includes background checks, language proof, and the citizenship test/interview process.

✅ Why Processing Times Matter?

• Helps in planning travel, work, or studies.
• Allows families to manage expectations during reunification.
• Provides insight into Canada’s immigration priorities.

Processing times are estimates only. They may vary depending on:
• Completeness of your application
• Extra background or security checks
• Volume of applications received
• Changes in IRCC policies or staffing

Applicants can always check the official IRCC website for the most updated processing times.

Final Thoughts

Canada remains one of the most popular destinations for students, workers, and families. While the processing times are improving in some categories, applicants should always plan ahead and apply as early as possible.
